HOLDEN: LOOP MOVING FORWARD - WBRZ NEWS

BATON ROUGE - East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Kip Holden said planning for the loop is moving forward, yet Iberville, Ascension and Livingston Parishes have pulled out.
The next phase of planning includes a "northern bypass" between the two remaining parishes on board, East and West Baton Rouge.
West Baton Rouge Parish President Riley Berthelot wants to use existing roads like Airline Highway to construct the north part of the loop. Airline could be elevated over cross streets to eliminate stopping at red lights.
"People would like to ride on Airline Highway and not have to stop at the red lights. Continuous flow and they may be willing to pay a couple of bucks to do that," Berthelot said.
Berthelot and Holden are looking for a private partner to construct and maintain the toll road, but the haven't announced any officials leads.
"When we get that private partner on board, then we'll know for a fact that we'll move forward and go ahead and if those other parishes want to join, fine, but we believe this will work," Holden said.
