Summer Move

 by Move One Inc.

With children out of school, summer is often the preferred time for arelocation by most expat families. When planning your summer move, however, you should keep in mind that hot weather might influence your health, so make sure you are well prepared. High temperatures may also slow down the move itself.

If you plan to move this summer, it is recommended you contact your movers as soon as possible to start scheduling, since it can be a very popular time and movingcompanies might beover-booked. Your move can end up putting a lot of stress not only on your physical well-being, but also on your emotional and psychological health as well. Therefore, do your best to avoid any panicked or stressful situations, simply by booking your moving date well in advance.

One of the most important factors to consider when relocating in the summer is how the heat and hot temperatures will affect you. Be careful not to spend too much time in the sun, and keepplenty of water available for yourself and your movers. The combination of sweating, lifting and packing heavy items can result in dehydration, therefore be sure to replace the hydrating electrolytes for everybody involved in your move. Avoid offering drinks that contain caffeine, such as coffee and soda, as they can exacerbate dehydration.

If you live in a very hot climate area, try scheduling you move in the morning, to avoid the hottest temperatures during the day. Also, avoid wearing sunglasses, necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc., as such accessories can cause injuries while packing and moving and may not be very comfortable after a few hours of working during a hot day. Wearing a simple cotton t-shirt and shorts is the best option.

Cleaning out the fridge before the day of your move is a good idea, but be careful not to refreeze thawed items. Such items may cause serious illness if consumed after being frozen a couple of times. If your frozen food gets defrosted, either eat it immediately or do not consume it at all.

Don't pack your air conditioners and fans until you are definitely ready to leave your home. Try to keep them running throughout the day, so you can have a place to relax. These items should also be the first things installed and turned on in your new home, so you can cool your new place down before moving your boxes in.
