Moving is stessful
by Move Guide Team
Moving is stressful. Whether for personal or professional reasons, it is a change of great magnitude, a change of location which changes everything. Also, moving to a different city or state involves many decisions of a financial nature. Due to the fact that belongings have to be packed and moved, the person is faced with the possibility of needing to hire a moving company. After searching online to get an idea of the cost to move, they are targeted by moving lead companies that provide their information to moving companies that are located in their area or not, sometimes also to brokers which are not affiliated with any moving company but will try to get their business to subsequently sell to an actual moving company. Depending on how many sites they visit, they can receive anywhere from 5 to 20 phone calls or more, not to mention the number of emails they receives sometimes on a daily basis! This situation only adds to the pressure and stress already felt by the person that is moving. Unfortunately under these conditions and as a way to relieve this pressure, the person might be led to make hasty decisions, in other words, to hire a moving company without doing the research on their reputation, this to no fault of their own. You cant find what youre looking for if you dont know what to look for.
Unfortunately, like any industry, the moving industry has companies that are not reputable. But unlike other industries, this one involves the handling of customers personal belongings and multiple contacts with the company especially if it is a long-distance move so there is the need to feel comfortable with the moving company that is hired. Some people have heard at least one horror story about a moving company such as holding a customers belongings hostage. One of the strategies that these companies use is opening their business and after piling up many complaints, they close the business and reopen under a new name. There are ways to avoid dealing with these companies.
Also, there are the ever popular hidden fees especially associated with this industry. This can be due to an inexperienced moving sales representative and a lack of thorough explanation on the part of the customer of the details of their move because every persons moving situation is different. Some are moving in or out of houses, others apartments and still others to or from storage facilities. Some customers are moving pieces that need to be specially handled like pianos or other expensive or fragile pieces. The best thing a person that is moving can do is to do some research on the moving companies that are contacting them or that they are considering hiring.
