Moving Kits Versus Moving Box Bundles

Most moving supplies companies offer kit options - you get a discount on your moving boxes and overall moving supplies if you buy them altogether in a predetermined kit. We look at whether a moving kit, or buying-as-you-go, is right for you.
What do moving kits contain? There is an enormous variety of moving kits on the market. Good moving supplies companies will often categorize their moving kits by how many rooms they cater to - you'll often find moving supplies kits for 1 room, 2 rooms, and up to ten rooms. The main attraction of these moving kits is that they usually offer discounts (sometimes hefty ones!), off the price of buying your moving boxes, packing paper, wardrobe boxespacking tape and other accessories separately.
Some moving supplies companies offer less straightforward options for packs, like an 'Apartment pack', 'Big House pack', or a 'Protection pack'. These are specially designed to suit people in varying situations - but unfortunately, situations vary so much that one pack will seldom completely meet any person's needs!
If you have moved before or recently, with a similar amount of household goods, moving supplies kits can be invaluable. When you know roughly how many boxes you will need, what size moving boxes work best for you and your goods, and you know how much packing tape that equates to for your preferences, these kits are excellent. Big discounts, and they also remove some of the double-checking that you need to do to ensure you have all of your packing supplies.
However, if you haven't moved recently, and have absolutely no idea how many moving boxes and what quantity of general packing supplies you will need, the savings dwindle quite quickly. When you accidentally buy more moving boxes than you need, any discount on the actual goods becomes irrelevant!
To try to avoid this, you can ask your mover or your moving supplies company to give you an estimate of how many boxes they think you will need, based on the size of hour house or apartment. If you buy somewhat less than you think you will need, you’re covered against the possibility of overestimating, and losing your savings.
However, there is a big caveat hanging over that advice! If you only have a limited time for packing, it is almost always better to overestimate. If it simply isn’t possible to pack your things in advance (and therefore have time to order extra moving boxes and moving supplies if necessary), it is better to be safe than sorry. And in this case, moving kits can be a lifesaver as well as a wallet saver!
