Moving out of your parent's house: Choices to consider

If you are thinking of moving out of your parents' house, you already know about how much money you will need each month. You have probably calculated the anticipated monthly costs of rent, utilities, food, and supplies. That's the first think you would want to do, but then comes the fun part! Have you considered all the choices you have, about how and where to live? The world is open to you. Sometimes the volume of choices available can be more daunting then the figuring out how to get the money you will need to be on your own.

Choices to Consider:

1. Your Location

You are young, and without the responsibilities of a family. You are ready to move out. But where? Do you want to live close enough to your parents to pop in for a visit, (and maybe get some laundry done and have Sunday pancake breakfast) now and then? Do you have lots of friends you are attached to in your current town, or do you want to try a whole new place, in another city, or even in another state, another country even? This is a choice you have. Decide on your location, and know why you are choosing that general area, even a gut feeling can be reason enough to consider different areas. But if you choose to move out of your parents just to 'get out' you may find that you will then want to 'get out' of the next place. Be proactive about choosing the general location before you start looking. Remember that you do have this choice.

2. Your Lifestyle

You may or may not have as much say about this choice yet, till you are earning enough to pay for the lifestyle you choose. But making a decision about the lifestyle you want to have once you have moved out will help you make sure decision number one is still the best one. Do you like to be alone? Are you looking for a small quiet spot to write that novel or compose songs for your band Or do you imagine having friends over and a busy social life? Do you have a car? Or will you need to bus and walk? Picture the new lifestyle you will want, since you do have choices and decide before moving out. You'll make a better final decision if you have thought a little about your lifestyle and what you want.

3. Your Resources

Living near friends and family can be a resource, say when you get a cold, or want someone to pick you up from the airport. Your job is a resource for money and sometimes other perks. If you have any talents, can you employ those to help earn a couple extra bucks. If you have been cutting all your friends' hairs for free. Ask them for a small fee
