PLAYERS SAY THRASHERS MOVE ‘ A GOOD THING’ -

Members of the Atlanta Thrashers spoke Tuesday about the franchise's move to Winnipeg in time for the 2011-12 season.
Players have been on alert about a possible move for several weeks after rumors swirled that Atlanta Spirit was looking to unload the Thrashers to anyone who made a strong offer - even if the prospective buyers were interested in moving the team. The sale of the club to True North Sports and Entertainment was finalized Tuesday, and is now subject to approval by the NHL's board of governors at a meeting next month. Restricted free-agent forward Andrew Ladd sounded optimistic about the possibility of playing in Winnipeg. "I think everyone wants to be able to play in Canada where they just have that passion for the game," he said. "There's a little extra pressure an attention, but for me I like that part of it. You can definitely thrive on it and use it to your advantage." Ladd was reportedly close to a deal with the Thrashers' owners, and the 25-year-old is expected to quickly work out a deal with Winnipeg. Forward Evander Kane also said he was looking forward to relocating to Canada, and hoped the franchise would adopt the Jets name that adorned the first NHL franchise to play in Winnipeg. "We've got to be called the Jets," he said on XM Radio. Starting netminder Ondrej Pavelec played his entire career in Atlanta, but said being the top draw in the city will be a refreshing change. "It's four sports in Atlanta and we were No. 4 I think," Pavelec, told The Canadian Press. "The people in Atlanta like baseball, they like American football. ... Everyone knows we had problems (getting) the fans to watch our games. "I think for hockey it's a good thing."
