" MOVING CHALKBOARD" TO BE PLACED DOWNTOWN TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR IDEAS SUMMIT - WHNT NEWS

The Office of Mayor Tommy Battle wants Huntsville's input on revitalizing Downtown. One of the ways ideas are being gathered is on a chalkboard that will be moved to different spots in Downtown Huntsville until July 21st.
The first stop for the chalkboard was at the Big Spring Partners Building on West Side Square Thursday. The chalkboard will be out from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each weekday for residents to submit ideas and will be on display at the Ideas Summit event on July 21st.
The moving chalkboard will also make two appearances at Concerts in the Park on July 11th and 18th.

More locations for the chalkboard will be announced on the event's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/downtownideas in the coming days.

Huntsville residents can also submit ideas on the Ideas Map on the City's official website: www.huntsvilleAl.gov/downtownideas as well as the Facebook page.

The most popular ideas will be revealed at the Ideas Summit on July 21st at 6:00 p.m. at the Big Spring Partners Building on West Side Square, that's the old Regions Bank building.

Mayor Battle along with David Wilson, the new Marketing Director for Downtown Huntsville, and Mary Jane Caylor, Executive Director of Big Spring Partners, will be speaking at the summit. Several other developers and public officials will speak at the event as well.

The Facebook page and Ideas Map will remain open indefinitely as a community forum. However, voting officially ends on July 13th. Huntsville residents are encouraged to submit their ideas so they can be counted before the revealing of the results on July 21st.

Mayor Battle said the Ideas Map is a useful tool for both local developers and popular retailers because it shows a demand for their services in a growing community.

"With the last Ideas Summit, we were able to show retailers accurate data regarding how many people want their business in Huntsville. That is a unique tool," Mayor Battle said. "It can be extremely effective."
