Making Friends in a New City is a Challenge

When people decide to move to a new city there is always countless thoughts and questions. We need to sell our home. Where will we live? What type of neighbors will we have? Are there good schools for my children? Once you are settled in, you realize you now need to make new friends in your new city. Feeling at home in a new place is about more than just having your belongings. It is about staying active and getting to know other members of your community.
The first thing to ask yourself is what type of people do I like to associate with? For a mother of young children there are indoor play facilities, county parks, and Mom Club organizations such as momsclub.org, and Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS). For parents of older children, you can meet other parents at school functions, join your child's PTA, sporting activities and city sponsored family events.
Singles and young couples looking to meet friends with similar interests can meet people at a restaurant or night life location, city events such as food and wine tastings, and athletic facilities such as a gym or team sport event.
Retired residents can look into city centers that host gatherings for seniors, arts and craft classes, join a gym or exercise facility to keep active, and look into a community pool for water aerobics or swimming classes. And there are many movie theatres, restaurants and bowling centers that offer special rates and times that attract other seniors.
And people of all ages share similar interests such as dining at restaurants, church functions, and meeting co-workers from your new job. Many of these individuals know you have recently relocated and could be interested in showing you your new town. Keep an open mind and make an effort to get to know other people in your community. Having friendships is an important
ingredient in making your new home a happy place to be.

  1. Truly, coping up with a new milieu would be very hard at first. I could somehow relate with the thought of this article. When our family had the first move, it wasn't really that easy. Moving as we all know is such a tricky process.I could still clearly remember that my aunt advised my father that the next time we move, we should hire a professional mover like Movers Beverly Hills.
