STARS SALE COULD MOVE FORWARD BY WEEK’S END - THE BOSTON CHANNEL NEWS

Dallas Stars interim president Tony Tavares told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that there could be progress on the sale of the team by the end of the week.
"There have been some bumps at times, as there will be in these kinds of negotiations, but there has been a lot of progress made in the past week and we're very confident about things moving forward," Tavares told the newspaper. "This is a process, and there are a lot of challenges in any sale like this, so we're always going to be cautious," he added. "But there is a lot of optimism right now for something by the end of the week." Canadian billionaire Tom Gaglardi has offered to buy the Stars. The deal reportedly is for $250 million and included a 50 percent interest in the American Airlines Center. Gaglardi had an exclusive 30-day negotiating window that reportedly has been extended. It is expected that the team will have to go through a bankruptcy hearing after owner Tom Hicks defaulted on more than $500 million in loans in 2009. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has said that the Stars - who moved from Minnesota in 1993 - will not be relocated. Earlier this week, the Atlanta Thrashers were sold to a group that plans to move the franchise to Winnipeg.
