Movers - Moving Day Tips

This article will provide you with helpful tips for a successful moving day. Please read on to find out more about movers.

When you plan your next move you need to plan out well in advance to make everything go smoothly even if you are involving movers. As tempting as it may be to let everything go until the last moment, you need to start planning a well orchestrated move at least a month in advance if you want it to go off without a hitch. One of the first things you will need to secure is a mover. You will want to check around for a referral with friends, co workers and family and try find a moving company that has a good reputation. Once you find a few companies to contact get some basic information from a simple internet search. You should try to use a moving company that is established and has a base of operations that is local.

You can easily get a few phone estimates from the moving company if you know the distance you plan to move and how many rooms of furniture you plan to move. The more you have to move the more you will end up spending so as much as you can par down your possessions the better.

Once you settle on a mover you like make sure to get a written contract to secure their services for the date and time you want and make sure you understand what you are paying for. Some movers will come in with boxes and pack you up if you so desire while others will simply load what you have already packed. If you decide to pack yourself up make sure that you use strong boxes that you can close and seal up. Mark your boxes so you know what is inside each box without tearing them apart to find needed items. And try to develop a system to packing to make unpacking easier. Packing one room at a time is a good way to keep everything in the box related and it makes it easier to unpack when you arrive at your new home.

The first items in the truck will be the last items off the truck so if you have things you need to get to right away make sure they are loaded last so they can be unloaded first. It is also a good idea to keep a care package of needed items out of the moving truck so you do not have to hunt for your basic hygienic items the first night in your newly packed home.

It is also a good idea to make a detailed list about everything that will be moved and to photograph the items ahead of time
, noting any scratches or dents in furniture so you will know if an item was damaged in transit or if it was picked up in that condition. This is a good safeguard for you and the movers to make sure there are no communication errors about what is to be moved and in what shape items are in upon pick up and will ensure your whole move goes as smooth as possible.
