Furniture Hunting for Fresh Graduates

Unless you moved out of your parents' home a few years after you started earning some money, it is understood that first-time movers don't have enough money to purchase all furniture usually found in a home. This includes tables, a couch, a bed, a TV set, cabinets, and so on. The accumulated cost of these items are just too high for the new university graduate. But as they say, you won't be able to learn how to be fully responsible if you don't move out at all.

One thing I learned from friends is that unless you have a stellar job that pays above-average salary, you just really cannot pay for everything on your own at the start of your life alone. This is where room mates come in handy. They do not only make a funny companion during those days when you are just at the apartment, doing nothing. They are also perfect for sharing the bills with and sharing the costs for purchasing furniture. What will normally take you 2 months to buy will now only take you a month to purchase. Time will come when you are going to part ways, though, so make sure you already have arrangements on your furniture when the fateful day comes.

And forget about those expensive wooden furniture in the meantime. There are a lot of cheaper alternatives to your regular furniture. The first few years of moving out is supposed to be about finding your strength in standing on both of your feet. Forget opulence in the meantime and get the necessities first. When you embark on establishing your career, you then get the financial means of purchasing the expensive furniture that you want. Same case with looking for a flat. Don't rent something that takes much of your monthly income!

Lastly, know where to look. For cheap furniture, the best place to look for is Craigslist. Lots of cheap second-hand furniture can be bought in your local area through this site. Also ask your friends and your relatives if you can get their spare furniture. Most of the time they would allow it.
