When padding or blanketing furniture items, most moving companies will use tape to secure the blankets to the furniture article while other companies use “rubber bands” designed for this purpose.
If the mover wants to use tape instead of “rubber bands”, which is fine, according to Department of Transportation regulations, he cannot charge you for the use of the tape. It is solely his expenditure.
Even-though you are sold the idea that your furniture will be padded or blanket-wrapped, some moving companies may remove your furniture from the apartment without padding or blanket-wrapping the furniture items. These articles are taken to the awaiting truck and placed without protection on the sidewalk or street, waiting to be loaded into the moving van.
Once inside the van, the furniture is “draped-padded”. This is a term used by moving companies. It means that padding or blankets are draped over the furniture items to semi-protect them during the trip from the origin residence to the destination residence.
Make no mistake about it, the goods are not padded or blanket-wrapped as a good mover will do, but it is a short cut taken by some moving crews, either with or without the approval of the moving company.
This practice should be against company regulations and barred from the Moving Industry.
