How to Tip Your Movers
Being a mover is a really tough job. Just imagine the amount of work and energy needed in order to pack, seal, carry, transport, unload and unpack all the items. That is not easy. Remember that you are paying movers for their services and if their service is excellent, then that means that they deserve a tip. If they did not perform as well as you expected them to, then a tip is obviously not called for. Remember, it is not your responsibility to tip your movers. You are only responsible for making sure that they are fully paid for their service.
Since being a mover requires a lot of physical effort, it is best for homeowners to provide a bottle of cold water for them throughout the day at the very least. Remember, if they feel cool and refreshed, that would help them work faster and more efficiently. If you want to be extra nice because they are performing very well, you can provide them with Sports drinks so that they will not get dehydrated especially if you are moving on a summer. If you have a lot of things to pack and the whole process would take the whole day, you can just prepare or buy lunch for them instead of giving them extra money for their food.
Unlike most services, the amount of tip that you should give movers is not based on percentage but based on the quality of service that they give you. If they are polite, efficient, easy to work with and hard working, then they deserve a larger cash tip than those who are lazy and working at a snail's pace. In fact, you have the option of not giving the movers any tip if they do a lousy job. That fact usually compels them to perform their best and make sure that the clients are satisfied. Usually, homeowners give 10 dollars for a 4 hour job or a half day job and 40 dollars for a 12 hour job. You should also take into consideration the amount of boxes that you made them carry, if there are multiple flights of stairs as well as other challenging factors that they had to hurdle throughout the move.
Remember that when you give tips to your movers, do not just give it to the foreman or the supervisor. It is best to hand the money directly to the movers to make sure that they cash reaches them.
